Dr. Neil Charnowitz is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon providing comprehensive surgical care to patients throughout the greater Baltimore area. He is dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based treatment with a strong emphasis on patient comfort, safety, and clear communication at every stage of care.
Dr. Charnowitz offers the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including wisdom tooth removal, dental implant placement, bone grafting and sinus augmentation, surgical extractions, and the evaluation and management of oral pathology. He has extensive experience treating maxillofacial infections, facial trauma, and complex dentoalveolar conditions, and routinely performs biopsies and soft-tissue procedures. He also provides office-based anesthesia services, including IV sedation and general anesthesia, allowing patients to receive advanced surgical care in a safe and comfortable outpatient setting.
Born and raised in Woodmere, New York, Dr. Charnowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Yeshiva University. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he was recognized for academic excellence and inducted into multiple honor societies. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Broward Health Medical Center in affiliation with Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. His advanced training included maxillofacial trauma, pathology, corrective jaw surgery, dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, bone grafting and sinus lifts, and anesthesia with IV sedation.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Charnowitz holds hospital appointments as an Attending surgeons at Sinai Hospital–LifeBridge Health, Johns Hopkins, Howard County Medical Center, and Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He remains actively involved in academic medicine, as Deans Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and has authored peer-reviewed research and delivered lectures on implant surgery, sinus augmentation, facial trauma, anesthesia safety, and maxillofacial infections.
Outside of surgery, Dr. Charnowitz enjoys spending time with his wife, Gabby, and their four children—JJ, Lilly, Cooper, and Asher. He stays active through sports, including volleyball, basketball, and swimming, and is known for his distinctive necktie collection, which adds a personal touch to his professional style.
